Today I’d love to hear from you. My list of “benefits to my health” from eating a Paleo Diet seems to be ever-growing. The interesting and fun thing is, I hear other benefits from other people! I decided it would be really neat to hear from my readers how they’ve benefited from eating this way or some way similar. So…if you’re willing to share what positive changes you’ve seen in your life/health, leave a comment below!
This is my current list of health benefits for myself*:
1. More-balanced hormones (this one is my favorite–check out my Progesterone Re-Test and Results)
2. More energy
3. More motivation
4. More “normal” emotions (normal for me might be a matter of disagreement ๐
5. Almost no lupus-related joint-pain
6. Lowered blood pressure (We will see if this continues through the rest of my current pregnancy! I had preeclampsyia with my daughter 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, I’ve completely changed my diet and so far my blood pressure is behaving!)
7. Virtually no nightmares (I had nightmares/scary dreams quite often and NEVER watch scary movies. I’ve probably had only 4-6 slightly scary dreams in the past 12 months…and most of those were after a stint of cheating on grains!)
8. Less headaches
…and I’m probably forgetting more!

How long before you start feeling the benefits? I’m on day 12 and still haven’t seen any benefits yet, still suffer from bloating and joint pain and headaches. I’ve cut out all dairy except for a little in my coffee which I have cut back to 1-2 per day, no sugar and all grains. I’m enjoying my veggie smoothies in the morning and delicious salads for lunch and pretty normal dinners without grains and to even give it a better chance I’ve cut out all alcohol too! I feel like I should be feeling amazing with all this great food I’m eating but I’m not.

Well it was 3-4 weeks into it that I noticed anything–and what I noticed was slight. After doing it strict for a month and then going back to my previous way of eating was when I really noticed how awful I felt eating the other way ๐ Keep at it! After a month or two try reintroducing one food at a time and see how your body tolerates it. That’s what I would suggest but as I’ve said before, I’m not an expert by any means. Just sharing my personal experiences.

Hi Jen! I was on the blog getting your recipe for tomorrow morning’s Easter coffee cake! Yay! ๐ I’m so glad you’ve found much healing with dietary changes. Between good food and eliminating chemicals from the house as much as possible, we’ve seen relief in our family from stomach pain, headaches, body aches, hormone imbalance, systemic yeast infection, bloating, constipation, anger outbursts, and various skin rashes. We’re currently grain/dairy/refined sugar free, and eat minimal nuts and legumes (at least while our digestive systems still need strengthening). Have a Happy Easter!!!

Oh, I wish eating this way had gotten rid of my nightmares! I think not eating fruit before bed would help, but thus far berries have been my weakness… Paleo has improved my Small Intestine Bacteria Growth and endometriosis symptoms and helped my hypoglycemia and anxiety and energy levels… and helped me gain back some much needed weight. But… after 6 months I’m still a long way from complete recovery.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I have been hearing a lot about going grain free…but I’m still hesitant to change my diet. After only a month or so I felt less lathargic. My stomach stopped aching. My bowel movements have apparentely become normal. Didn’t realize they weren’t normal before, until Dr. explained to me. My all over body pains have simmered down alot. Still have some joint pain, probably arthritis. I am still learning what to eat and how to eat without all the bread and pasta. Was diagnosed in Feb 2012.

I don’t define my diet as Paleo or GAPS, but I do follow an anti-inflammatory diet which, for now, means little or no grains. I feel much more energy and, best of all, less joint pain (from Lyme disease). I eat lots of vegetables, nuts and beans, and sometimes meat. I haven’t struck the right balance yet, but not “living on” grains has made a huge difference so far!
